First off, WHHHEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
As a huge Star Wars nerd, this makes me happy. It’s not an official entire population thing like the census, but it was a poll that had more than 250,000 people voting. It was hosted by Empire Magazine and we all know they’re legit when it comes to films! You can find the full list of the 301 greatest movies here.
This film fully deserves to be at the top of that list. I grew up watching the films on VHS pretty much every weekend. I never have and never will tire of them and I can’t understand people that don’t like the franchise if they’ve never experienced it. It’s a cinematic masterpiece, coming in at a lively (almost) 35 years old, released in 1980 with an estimated budget of $18million! Just go and watch the original trilogy right now and tell me it doesn’t blow your mind!
Appreciate the timelessness of the story, the special effects and the vision that were way ahead of their time. There is one thing I don’t appreciate though, and that’s the special edition changes; you’ll know them when you see them, you will realise they have no earthly right being there.
George Lucas, I salute you!
